MEMBERS ONLY GAMES DAY - 2025
On the 29th November 2025 at Lang Lang Showgrounds many of our members came together to celebrate the end of the year at the clubs games day where we set up different challenges.
We had containers games with teams searching either 25, 50 or 75 containers, interior challenges with tricky hides and many distractors and a sniff zone for puppies and seniors!
Club members had a great deal of fun and practice at our mock trial held in March 2025
Due to the mock trial being postponed - not once but twice - due to a Total Fire Ban being in place we tried for the mock trial one last time. Perseverance paid off and over 50 members attended with their dogs to spend a day learning together with searches prepared across 7 different classes from novice all the way up to ultimate scenarios being prepared by current judges, trainee judges and local instructors! Photos and memories to be added to online platforms soon!
This seminar is structured to build your understanding step by step. We will begin with the chemistry of essential oils and how they are produced, because extraction method influences VOC composition. Then we will examine the VOC profiles of each scent‑work oil in detail, including the dominant compounds and their volatility characteristics. After that, we will explore environmental factors such as temperature and vapour pressure, which determine how VOCs evaporate and disperse. We will also discuss odour cocktailing — the mixing of multiple VOC sources — and overshadowing, where a stronger odour masks a weaker one. Finally, we will look at VOCs released by adhesives, plastics, and storage materials, which can unintentionally influence the scent picture and affect training outcomes. By the end of the lecture, you will have a comprehensive understanding of how scent‑work odours behave in the real world.
Talia’s passion for scent sports began 20 years ago when she trained her first dog for ANKC tracking. After learning about detection, she has gone on to train dogs for various roles including conservation work and truffle hunting. Talia is one of Victoria’s foundation judges for ANKC Scent Work and has trialled two of her own dogs successfully. Her GSP, Solly gained his Masters title in 2024. You might not have seen her around at many scent work trials recently as she and Solly are working towards certification as a Search and Rescue team. She still enjoys teaching Scent Work though and is looking forward to sharing her thoughts about markers and cues and where they fit in training for Scent Work.
Talia is business owner of Discover Canine

An online talk for members-only presented by Angela Hervey-Tennyson which looked at the changes of behaviour that lead to that final indication when your dog works scent to source.
Angela has a wealth of knowledge in canine behaviour and professional experience in handling scent detection dogs and business owner of K9 NoseFun
Our Inaugural members only online event held on the 19th January 2025 was presented by Sonja Needs and was a great success with our members getting the chance to learn some great facts about the dogs olfactory system in the 'Scentsory Science Seminar'
